Fru sat and sun

Friday was boring- stretching before the sun was up, with some light bells.

Saturday was a disaster, in all respects. My wife thought I would be around, but I left at 10am. She had to chase three basically uncooperative children until 3pm. I got home with an injured foot to an unhappy family.

Yeah, played wing, then prop. Forwards have a lot more fun playing rugby.

Sunday was sad.

Thursday July 26

Still keeping up with the crappy diet and lots of training. I do think that it's catching up to me, though.

At rugby training, just couldn't get a few of the drills through my head, man. Frustrating.

Did this for three rounds:

7 x 50m sprints
20 seated knee tucks
20 feet up push ups
20m bear crawls

Did about 10 minutes of rolling and stretching after the sprints. That is helping the quads, a little.

Had the same two guys for company, too. They lasted for all three rounds. Somersby and ice for my knees and ankles in the bar.

Wednesday July 25

Still no selections done for this weekend. I'm trying to get around a family function I have to go to and playing an away game. I'm pretty sure I can make it happen.

I woke up early, got this done for three rounds:

20 two handed swings
10 pistol grips each side
15 cleans
15 snatches
20 m overhead press walks
20 push ups

The off to work and the like. At the end of the day, my wife poked me and asked me to take two of my kids swimming - so I had a swim with my kids for about 30 minutes on top of this. It felt great to float and strech in the pool. Diet still sucked today, just a little bit less than yesterday.

Tuesday July 24

Oh. My. God. I'm getting down on a lot of things as of late.

This routine of "up late, up early nap in the mid afternoon, with  eating like crap" has to come ot an end. I do see a light at the end of the tunnel, though. I finish work on Friday this week. Three more days.

After rugby training - lots of contact in one rucking/mauling drill for an hour, did the following:

7 x 50m sprint
20 feet up push ups
20 seated knee tucks
20 m bear crawl.

After this was done, I did about 15 minutes of rolling, stretching and poking myself in the muscles for recovery.

Had one or two keep my company, but I'm a lot fitter this year than I have been in previous rugby seasons. Seriously, I know I'm fit, but I'm just not sure if I'm ready for the Tough Mudder. I'm all in, though.

Monday July 23

Early morning kettlebell workout:

20 two handed swings
15 kb cleans
15 kb snatches
20m overhead press walk
20 push ups

All done by6;45, then off to work. Felt sore, but good. I sooooo have to work on my diet.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday July 22

Well, my training continues to do it's thing. Rugby is being helped by my fitness ... but I keep really just mucking about with the ball when I get near it. Meh, at least I can get to the rucks to protect the ball.

That's really my job, man. The ball handing thing is just extra. I made some awesome dummy runs on Saturday. he he he he he

In any case, Friday was a stretching day; up early to meet the dawn with some stretching. Legs and shoulders and really hurting these days. Meh, it's like I'm playing first team rugby or something.

Saturday was weird for me. I was at home for the day, and got some stuff done about the house, had a nap and then went off to rugby. I did well, we won, but there was just no oomph. No intensity in the game. They went to depowered scrums, and so I could get out and help my team without absorbing a lot of pressure through my back. Which was nice. We won by a lot, too. Kept them off the score board, which was also nice.

This is the second half of the season, and we need to get all the bonus points to keep things in reach We got the precious bonus point this weekend, by the way. We need to win the remaining games in the season with the bonus point for each week, and then win the last game of the year. Then, we got the chance to be promoted.

Sunday was swimming with my kids; lots of icing my legs and knees, too. Scrapes and cuts on my knees from the dry pitch really didn't like the nice nor the chlorine in the pool. I still felt awful, though.

Thursday July 19

Oh, I'm a ball of hurt today. Had a decent massage yesterday, but the RMT actually laughed at the tightness in my quads.

I went to rugby training and had two other guys do fits with me this time.

7x 50m sprints
20 feet up push ups
20 seated knee tucks
20m animal movements

Nice night for the sprints- cool with a decent breeze. Im going to be tight head Saturday, too.

Wed July 19

Early up to get on a kettlebell workout:

30 two handed swings
10 kb cleans
15 kb snatches
20 m waiter walk with kb over head
20 push ups

Got it done by 7am, then off to work.

Sunday Monday and Tuesday July 17

Ugh , Sunday was a rest day. I literally couldn't sweat or my wife would be on my about my cut on my face.

Same with Monday .. .I had to go to work and look like a thug. I stayed away from working out until the sun was going down. I had to do something, so I did a quick thing:

30 two handed swings
10 kb cleans
15 snatches
20 puch ups
20 BW squats

for three rounds.

Tuesday I woke up feeling like living death, so I missed a morning workout. I did get a rather cool message about working out with two MMA guys for a fight each has in the fall. Seems people like me as a training partner. I'm cool with that.

Tuesday after training, they called a meeting of the senior men. Out of respect, I attend such meetings, but rarely is anything done from them. One of the reasons I hate meetings of any sort. Obvious points pointed out for people who already know ... or should. At least the idiot who was being an idiot on the balcony from Thursday last said he was sorry he was an idiot. Sort of nice to hear that.

One funny line was that I "had the same work rate at the start of the game as at the end of the game" ... and that "probably no one noticed or saw what I was doing, but the coach did." ... not sure if that is a good thing or not. I'm going to assume both were good. Finally, it was I was pointed out as an example to follow for extra fitness. ... and not a body followed when I did this after the meeting;

7x 50m sprints
20 push ups
20 seated knee tucks

I missed the animal crawl .. it's is, after all, over 40 degrees with the humidex. I figure I'm ok to miss that. It was dang hot.

Friday and Saturday July 14

Friday was a rest day. I was bitter and had to get to work early. After work, I took my kids for a swim; I stretched, too.
No, that is not me about to eat a left. I'm sorry to say I was knocked out as this punch was being thrown, too.

I had to get my head xrayed later ... and here it is...

Yeah, that's not my idea of fun. But .... what ever.

We play the same team at the end of September. Season's not done, we need to win the rest of the games we play with a bonus point, then beat the team we just lost to.

Thursday July 12

Well, what can I say ... Unpleasant. Makes me want to switch clubs kind of unpleasant.

Just starting my sprints after a light rugby session, and get chirped from the balcony. By the u18 coach.

I left. Rather than engaging, I left.

Like I said, unpleasant.

Wed July 11

Today I was up early, just for a change. In the early morning, before my wonderful kids got up, I did the following for three rounds:

20 KB two handed swings
10 KB cleans
15 KB snatches
20 m KB waiter press walks
20 push ups

It wasn't such a great day for my diet, but I am doing a lot of work. I know, not a great way to try and get ready for a race like the Tough Mudder, but w/e.

Right, off to bed at a reasonable hour.

Fri, Sat, Sunday, Mon Tues

Right ... been a few days. Friday I took a day off.

Saturday was a rugby day ... and we kicked butt. Final score was 70-5. It was really hot, though. I didn't measure, but I'm sure I lost a few kilos of water during the game.  I did get a swim in after the game, too. Man, that felt really good.

Sunday was a recovery day. Lots of swimming, too.

Monday was a KB session in the early am'

20 swings
15 KB snatches
10 KB cleans
25 feet up push ups

Tuesday was a training day. After the semi-light session I did this for three rounds:

7 x 50m sprints
25 feet up push ups
20 seated knee tucks
20 m  two feet take off jumps.

Wednesday ... onto Wednesday.

Wed and Thursday July 5

Ugh. Wednesday I woke up and felt like death. Seriously. Diet is ok these days ... but the nights are not my friend.

Thursday I got up feeling a whole lot better, still going to bed too late, though. I'm up and out of bed by 6:15am these days and so Thursday I got to do this for four rounds before work:
20 two handed swings
10 cleans each side
20m waiter press walk (each side)
15 KB snatches each side
20 feet up push ups
20 BW squats

I went to rugby and then after, had some company for the first two rounds of my three rounds of this:
7 x 50m sprint
20 push ups
20 seated knee tucks
20 m bear crawl

I felt a lot better after that then I did on Wednesday morning, to be frank. I'm selected to play firsts again. Should be about 40 degrees at 3pm Saturday. Should be a fun one. Ugh On to Friday!

Tuesday July 2

Good news: I'm really sore after today.

Actually, I haven't been this sore in a while. Seriously. My butt hurts like I've been in prison for a week and my legs are sore from sprinting last night. I believe that the line was "Run like you stole something!"

I did this for four rounds in the morning, before work:

20 Kb TH swings
10 Kb snatches
10 Kb cleans
25 BW squats

I had to get to work, which was a drag. Alas, it will improve, as I am a faithful follower of "The Third Option" - that is, I get my own stuff, rather on relying on others. It's a character flaw, but I own it.

After training, I got this done for three rounds, too:

50m sprints x 7
20 feet up push ups
25 seated knee tucks
20 BW squats
20m bear crawl

Friday, Sat, Sun and Mon July 1

Friday was a prep day - lots to get done for the next week, man. Ahead of time, all the time. I drove north for the weekend to help my parents get stuff ready for the summer.

Saturday was unreal. Lots of stuff to lift - the anchors of the dock, for example. Suckers must weigh 100 lbs, easy. Probably more. Had to lift them and get them reset. Forget about the five trips up and down the hill that they reside on, lets talk about me lifting my 30 pound son up and down that hill, too.

Sunday was more of the same, lifting and doing stuff. I also did a quick bodyweight and KB workout, just to get it done.

Monday was even more up and down that hill; my son is about 30 pounds of fun, but not so much fun when you are lifting it up a hill. Lots of prep, then a drive home. Getting ready for tomorrow.
